When we first set out on the road, we knew our home-on-wheels had to be practical, comfortable, and built to go the distance. This wasn’t going to be a quick holiday — it was going to be our full-time lifestyle — so choosing the right caravan and tow vehicle was one of the biggest decisions we faced.
We wanted a caravan that was spacious enough for both of us to live and work in without feeling cramped, and tough enough to handle the corrugated tracks, dusty roads, and rugged conditions of the Australian Outback. After plenty of research, inspections, and more than a few long chats with other travellers, we found the perfect fit — our 23’ Evernew RT1000.
This van has been our home since 2020, and it’s served us incredibly well. It’s strong, stable, and comfortable, giving us the space to cook, relax, and work on the road — and it’s carried us to some of the most remote and breathtaking places in Australia, from red desert tracks to coastal hideaways.
Of course, with a big and heavy van, we also needed a tow vehicle that could handle the job with ease. After narrowing the options down to two, we went with the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series — and we’ve never looked back. It’s powerful, reliable, and capable of taking us (and our van) anywhere we’ve wanted to go, no matter how far off the beaten path.
Our setup has been the backbone of our travels — comfortable enough for long stays, capable enough for challenging conditions, and reliable enough to give us peace of mind in the most isolated corners of the country.
