When you're travelling around Australia, you never quite know what you're going to get when you turn on the tap. Most of the time the water is perfectly fine, but every now and then we find ourselves wondering about the quality, especially in some of the more remote locations.
That's why we carry a Kactoily Water Quality Tester. It's a simple way to check the quality of the water before filling the tanks or topping up a glass. We've found it easy to use, reliable, and it gives us a bit of extra peace of mind when we're on the road.
If you'd like one for your own travels, we've organised a 15% discount for the Beyond The Grey OZ community. The discount applies to both the Standard and Bluetooth versions of the tester and will be automatically applied when you use the link below.
Safe travels and happy caravanning!
One of the great things about travelling Australia is spending time outdoors under the awning, around the campfire, or enjoying a sunset with friends. Unfortunately, the mozzies and midges often have the same idea!
Over the years we've tried just about every mozzie solution out there, and one product that has genuinely impressed us is the Tiny Repeller from Flextail. It's compact, lightweight, and creates a mosquito-free zone around your campsite, making those evenings outside far more enjoyable.
What we love most is how simple it is to use. It starts working quickly, is USB rechargeable, and even doubles as a handy camp light, which means one less thing to pack.
If you're tired of sharing your happy hour with mozzies, the Tiny Repeller is well worth a look.

Before we took the plunge into caravan life, we'd spent plenty of time travelling in tents, camper trailers, and campervans. While they all gave us a taste of adventure, we knew that if we were going to travel full-time, we wanted something that felt more like a home than a holiday setup.
Choosing a caravan was one of the biggest purchases we'd ever made, so we spent months researching manufacturers, inspecting vans, and talking to other travellers. In the end, we chose an Evernew Caravan, and itโs a decision we've never regretted.
Since 2020, our Evernew has been our home as we've travelled to some of Australia's most remote and beautiful destinations. From rough outback roads to coastal escapes, it has handled everything we've thrown at it while providing the comfort and reliability we need for life on the road.
What has impressed us most is the quality of the build. The van feels solid, well-designed, and built to withstand the demands of Australian travel. Every year we're reminded why we chose Evernew in the first place.
Just as importantly, their after-sales support has been outstanding. Whenever we've had a question or needed advice, the team has been approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in helping. That level of service gives you confidence, especially when you're travelling thousands of kilometres from home.
We're often asked what caravan we'd choose if we were starting again today. After more than four years of full-time travel, our answer is simple โ we'd happily choose Evernew again.

When you're travelling full-time, staying connected and keeping your devices charged isn't a luxuryโit's a necessity. Between running Beyond The Grey OZ, managing our Tag-Along Road Trips, editing videos, and staying in touch with family, we rely heavily on having a dependable power source wherever we are.
That's where our OSCAL PowerMax 1024Wh 1800W Portable Power Station comes in.
We've been using the PowerMax for a while now and it's proven to be a reliable piece of kit. Whether we're charging laptops, camera gear, phones, drones, or running other 240V appliances around camp, it has handled everything we've asked of it without missing a beat.
One of the things we really like is its portability. It sits neatly on the back seat of the LandCruiser when we're travelling, making it easy to access and use whenever we need it. Despite its compact size, it packs plenty of power and gives us a reliable backup energy source whether we're free camping, exploring away from the van, or simply need extra power around camp.
The OSCAL PowerMax features a 1024Wh LiFePO4 battery, 1800W output, solar charging capability, and smart app connectivity, making it a versatile option for caravanners, campers, and anyone who enjoys spending time off-grid.
As with any product we recommend, we're only sharing it because we've used it ourselves and it's worked well for us in real-world travelling conditions.
If you're looking for a portable power solution for caravanning, camping, or off-grid adventures, the OSCAL PowerMax is definitely worth considering.

When we first started travelling Australia and creating videos for Beyond The Grey OZ, one of the first pieces of camera gear we purchased was a GoPro. Fast forward several years and countless adventures later, and we're still using them today.
Over the years we've owned the GoPro Hero 7, Hero 10 and now the Hero 12, and they've captured everything from dusty outback tracks and beach sunsets to campfire chats and wildlife encounters.
What we love most about the GoPro is its simplicity. It's compact, rugged, easy to use, and produces fantastic footage without requiring a degree in cinematography. Whether mounted on the car, attached to the caravan, or simply handheld while walking around a destination, it consistently delivers great results.
Are there other action cameras on the market? Absolutely. But we've never felt the need to switch. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The GoPro has proven itself time and time again, and it's become an essential part of our travel and video-making setup.
If you're looking for a reliable action camera to document your own adventures, the GoPro range is certainly worth considering. It's helped us capture some incredible memories and share our travels with thousands of fellow travellers around Australia.

One of the best additions to our photography and video gear has been our DJI Air 3S. It has completely changed the way we capture Australia's incredible landscapes, allowing us to showcase destinations from a perspective that simply isn't possible from the ground.
What we love about the Air 3S is how easy it is to fly while still producing stunning, professional-looking footage. Whether we're filming rugged outback tracks, pristine beaches, winding rivers, or our convoy on a Tag-Along Road Trip, the drone helps us capture the scale and beauty of the places we visit.
The image quality is outstanding, the battery life is impressive, and the built-in safety features make it a great option for both experienced drone pilots and those just getting started.
Some of our favourite footage on the Beyond The Grey OZ YouTube channel has been captured with the DJI Air 3S. It allows us to create inspiring videos, preserve incredible memories, and share Australia's breathtaking scenery with our audience in a way that truly does it justice.
If you're considering adding a drone to your travel photography setup, the DJI Air 3S is well worth a look.

Sometimes it's the simplest products that make the biggest difference when you're living on the road, and these mats are a perfect example.
After spending plenty of time sweeping sand, dirt, grass, and who knows what else out of the van, we discovered just how effective these mats are at keeping the mess outside where it belongs.
We use one outside the caravan door, another in the doorway as we step inside, and we've even placed one on each side of the bed. It might sound a bit over the top, but a quick wipe of your feet before climbing into bed makes a huge difference when you're living in a caravan full-time.
They're durable, easy to clean, and do a fantastic job of trapping dirt before it gets spread throughout the van. Less sweeping, less vacuuming, and cleaner floors means more time enjoying your travels.
It's not the most glamorous piece of camping gear we own, but it's definitely one of the most practical!

When we first bought our Sar Major Annexe, Paul wasn't entirely convinced we'd use it enough to justify the investment. As it turns out, it's become one of those pieces of gear we're really glad we have.
While we don't set it up at every stop, it comes into its own when we're staying somewhere for an extended period. It effectively creates an extra outdoor living area, giving us more space to relax, entertain friends, store gear, or simply enjoy being outside while still having some protection from the elements.
Before purchasing, we spent quite a bit of time researching the different options available and kept coming back to Sar Major. Their products have a reputation for quality, durability, and thoughtful design, and our experience has certainly backed that up.
The annexe is well made, fits beautifully, and has stood up well to the demands of travelling around Australia. It's one of those additions that can make a campsite feel much more like home, particularly during longer stays.
If you're considering adding an annexe to your caravan setup, we believe Sar Major is well worth a look.

If there's one kitchen gadget that has earned its place in our caravan, it's our Shuttle Chef.
We originally bought it as an alternative to a traditional slow cooker, and over the years it has become one of our favourite cooking tools. Not only do we use the pots that come with it for everyday cooking, but it's also perfect for preparing meals when we're out exploring for the day.
One of our favourite ways to use the Shuttle Chef is to prepare a casserole, stew, curry, or soup in the morning. Once it's heated up, it goes into the insulated outer container and continues cooking without any power. Then, after a day of sightseeing, hiking, or exploring a new destination, we return to the van to find a hot, fully cooked meal waiting for us.
It's also brilliant on travel days. Before we leave camp, we'll prepare dinner and place it in the Shuttle Chef. By the time we've arrived at our next destination, set up the van, and put the kettle on, dinner is ready to serve. No rushing around, no extra power usage, and no standing over a stove after a long day on the road.
For caravanners and campers looking to save power, reduce cooking time, and enjoy a home-cooked meal at the end of a busy day, the Shuttle Chef is a fantastic bit of gear.
It's one of those products that, once you start using it, you wonder how you ever travelled without it.

One of the challenges of travelling full-time is being away from family for long periods, especially the grandkids. These custom wall decals have been a fantastic way for us to keep those special people close, no matter where we are in Australia.
The decals are easy to create online using your favourite photos and can be applied directly to the walls of the caravan without the need for bulky photo frames. They look great, take up no bench space, and add a real personal touch to our home on wheels.
What we love most is that they're easy to remove and replace. As new family photos come along or the grandkids grow up, we can simply peel off the old decals and update them without damaging the walls or leaving behind any sticky residue.
They've been a wonderful way to personalise our caravan and make it feel even more like home. Every day we're reminded of the people we're travelling for and the family waiting for us when we get back.
If you're looking for a simple way to add a personal touch to your caravan, motorhome, or home, these decals are well worth a look.

When you're travelling full-time, having a reliable fridge isn't just convenientโit's essential. That's why we've relied on our Engel Fridge Freezer since the very beginning of our travels, and it has never let us down.
Over the years it has travelled thousands of kilometres with us, from coastal campsites to remote outback destinations, quietly doing its job day after day. It keeps our food and drinks perfectly chilled, even during the hottest Australian summers, giving us one less thing to worry about on the road.
One of the features we've really appreciated is the flexibility it provides. Whenever we've needed extra freezer space for longer trips or remote travel, the Engel has handled it with ease. Whether it's storing frozen meals, ice cream, or a few extra supplies for extended stays away from town, it's been up to the task.
Like any good piece of travelling gear, it's the reliability that stands out most. It simply works. No fuss, no dramas, and no unpleasant surprises when you open the lid.
After years of full-time travel, our Engel remains one of the most trusted and dependable pieces of equipment we own, and we wouldn't head off on a big trip without it.
